Career Compass – for the future professionals is a two-year international Erasmus+ programme designed to support socially disadvantaged young people in planning their future more consciously, developing their skills, and entering the world of work with greater confidence. The project not only provides guidance but also creates opportunities – offering a real gateway to the future.

The programme is intended for young people who want to better understand their own strengths, make thoughtful decisions, and build a realistic, achievable vision for their future. Within the project, 50 participants – 25 from Romania and 25 from Slovakia – work together with mentors and professionals through development trainings, career-orientation activities and international meetings.

Compared to TANDEM n.o.’s Mesterségem cíMERRE career guidance programme, this project introduces a more complex and in-depth form of support. Its innovative aspect lies in the structured training process, supplemented by personalised one-to-one mentoring and workplace visits.

What does Career Compass offer?
Participants get to explore 20 different professions, acquire up-to-date digital and labour-market knowledge, and take part in intercultural experiences that help them become more open, adaptable and confident. By the end of the programme, each young person will have prepared their own individual career plan.

Project implementers
The programme is carried out by the Com.Pass Association (formerly Turulmadár) in partnership with TANDEM, n.o. from Slovakia. Running from 1 September 2025 to 31 August 2027, the collaboration builds on more than fifteen years of professional experience in youth work, mentoring and community development.

This programme is essential because many young people face significant challenges when making decisions about their future: a lack of information, uncertainty, a rapidly changing labour market and limited support networks can all hinder their progress. This is especially true for young people living in rural or socio-economically disadvantaged areas. Career Compass provides tools, experiences and support that help them find their own direction.

Main activities

  • Mentoring: personalised support throughout the young person’s personal and professional development.
  • Career-orientation and skills-development sessions: introduction to 20 professions, with in-depth exploration of at least 5 fields.
  • Resilience and self-awareness trainings: strengthening perseverance, self-confidence and coping skills.
  • Digital skills development: learning to use modern tools and understanding the contemporary labour market.
  • International meetings: joint workshops where young people from both countries learn and create together.
  • Workplace and professional visits: experiencing real working environments and gaining hands-on insights.

Expected outcomes for participants

  • A consciously planned career path and an individual development plan
  • Increased self-confidence and clearer self-awareness
  • Improved communication, decision-making and social skills
  • International experience and a broader perspective
  • A supportive community that serves as a long-term resource

Long-term impact

The project aims to create lasting positive change in the lives of its participants: 50 young people will have the opportunity to discover their personal path, 50 individual career plans will be completed, and a transferable methodology will be developed for future use by Com.Pass and TANDEM. Career Compass believes that every young person deserves the chance to explore their abilities and find a vocation in which they can truly thrive.
