ReConnection project - The 2nd Youth Weekend Workshop – APRIL 2026

Four weeks flew by since the March weekend workshop, and once again we found ourselves in the beautiful region of Gemer (SK). Just like the young participants, we as trainers, volunteers, and the whole team of TANDEM eagerly awaited the opportunity to continue creating meaningful experiences and spaces for growth and learning, where young people - stepping away from their disadvantaged social environments - could recharge and enrich themselves with new experiences.

We started Friday full of enthusiasm, and I can already reveal that we finished the weekend on Sunday with just as much energy and inspiration.

This weekend, not only the weather and nature reflected the true arrival of spring and warmer days - we did too. Together with the young participants, we were able to connect with one another, and with the events happening around and within us, in a much more open and blossoming way. This time, the venue was Chata Hámor in Kokava nad Rimavicou (SK), whose spacious yard and community spaces allowed the weekend’s activities and opportunities for connection to become even richer.

On Friday, we reflected on the previous weekend and everything that had happened since then, giving us the chance to truly arrive mentally and emotionally. Some participants joined us for the first time, and we warmly welcomed them, doing our best to involve them in the shared experiences and the life of the group. Already on the very first day, participants encountered playful yet challenging tasks, which became meaningful goals to work toward throughout the rest of the weekend.

While the trainers spent the evening coordinating and preparing for the following days, a huge group hide-and-seek game unfolded outside in the yard. I believe it made the first evening of arrival even more enjoyable and memorable for everyone.

On Saturday, we focused more specifically on professions, the world of work, and how young people relate to these topics and see themselves within them. Through playful group activities, we explored together what kinds of skills, attitudes, and qualities are needed in different jobs and roles.

Throughout the day, we worked with experiential, non-formal educational methods: interactive exercises, small-group discussions, and various situational tasks helped participants understand through their own experiences the importance of their decisions, attitudes, and perseverance in everyday life.

The life stories they encountered during the program were especially impactful. These stories created opportunities for identification and for discovering new perspectives. Some participants may have drawn strength and inspiration from them - encouragement to face their own paths and to find the inner resources needed to “surf” the waves of life more courageously.

During the shared activities, the young people had several opportunities to test themselves in different situations: they experienced what it means to take responsibility as part of a team, to think together, make decisions, and carry tasks through to completion. It became increasingly visible that they dared to speak up, ask questions, and actively participate in the process.

Not only the shared tasks, but also the more personal moments played an important role throughout the program. There was space for participants to get to know themselves better and to become more open toward one another. Encouraging feedback and shared games helped strengthen trust and gradually transform the group into a real community.

We would like to thank the young participants for the honesty, presence, and dedication they brought into the shared work. We are already looking forward to continuing the journey and to everything the next occasion will bring.

ReConnection project - The First Youth Weekend Workshop Took Place

„Seeing further, being seen”

We had scarcely let go of the memories of the last occasion of 2025's training for young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds, when our 2026 training series within the framework of the ReConnection project had already begun. This time, young people from the villages in the hills around Gemer (SK) were in the spotlight, who came to us because of their socially disadvantaged backgrounds (including participants from children’s homes) in order not only to be seen, but to see further over time by attending these weekends.

We traveled up to Kokava nad Rimavicou (SK) to meet them personally and to create a safe and accepting environment where they can feel at ease. The high level of interest was a great source of joy for us; however, we had to make a difficult decision: due to the large number of applicants – after consulting with teachers – we had to limit the number of participants to 21 people.

At the beginning of Saturday, getting to know one another still played the central role, which gradually led into deeper processes built on self-awareness and cooperation. During the morning, exercises came into focus that helped the young people become more aware of their own feelings and express them with increasing precision, even in a reflective way. Emphasis was also placed on being able to name and share how they see themselves, while also experiencing the importance of cooperation through shared tasks.

The participants could also try themselves in situations through our outdoor activities where they could give space to their creativity, show some aspects of their personalities, and also have the opportunity to safely test their own boundaries.

We closed the evening with a relaxed but thought-provoking career orientation game of a preparatory nature, which also served as a kind of introduction to the programs of the following weekends.

On Sunday, we continued our shared work with a morning rich in experiences, which we could once again spend outdoors surrounded by beautiful natural scenery. This was followed by the closing of the weekend: during a shared reflection, the participants had the opportunity to look back on the past days, organize their experiences, and express all that they take with them – whether realizations, lessons, or personal experiences.

It was especially good to hear that the participants said goodbye already looking forward to the next occasion, when we can meet again after four weeks.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this weekend possible.

Toward Conscious Decisions Through Experiences - Career Orientation Day at the Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering and Electrotechnics

In February 2026 TANDEM organized the career orientation day named “My Profession” (HU: Mesterségem cíMERRE?) at the Secondary School of Mechanical Engineering and Electrotechnics in Komárno. The program offered support to nearly 90 third-grade students in thinking more consciously about further studies and their future.

During the first half of the day, participants took part in sessions focused on self-awareness in small groups. Through interactive games and situational exercises, they could discover their strengths, while also articulating their personal goals and ideas for the future.

In the afternoon block, the emphasis shifted to concrete questions of career choice. Through several stations, students could gain experience-based insights: during the Apply Smart! (Felvételizz okosan!) board game, they could gain insight into university life; in the Living Library program, they could speak with representatives of different professions; while in the Mock Job Interview, they could try themselves in a simulated recruitment situation.

At the Creative Stand, by “traveling” into the future, they could imagine their own professional life path, while at the Career Path Ropes Course they could also test their courage and perseverance. In addition, there was an opportunity for individual consultation with a career guidance counselor.

At the Information Stand, representatives of János Selye University (SK) and Széchenyi István Egyetem University of Győr (HU) provided information about further study opportunities, while in the Graduate Preview program students could also experience what it feels like to look toward their future with a diploma in hand.

To close the program, a raffle made the day even more memorable.

We thank the leadership, teachers, students and staff of the Secondary School for their kind and helpful welcome, as well as for their cooperation. We are grateful for the dedicated work of our trainers, colleagues and volunteers, as well as for the active participation of the students.

As the event took place during the week of our partner meeting, it also provided a good opportunity to involve representatives of our Transylvanian partner, the Asociația Turul Madar / Com.Pass Association, more closely in the program. Our cooperation with them is currently taking place within the Career Compass – for the Future Professionals Erasmus+ project. During the meeting, our partners could gain direct experience with the career orientation games and tools addressing young people, while also actively contributing to the successful realization of the event. We gratefully thank them for this as well.

It is a great source of joy for us that this inspiring day, rich in experiences, could be successfully realized.

Briefly About the “My Profession” (Mesterségem cíMERRE?) Program

This is a full-day career orientation program for secondary school students, primarily addressing third- and fourth-year students. The aim of the event is for young people to get to know the world of different professions through real-life examples: to gain insight into the everyday realities, challenges and beauty of particular professions, and to find answers to the questions that occupy them as they stand before choosing a career.

The program was realized with the support of the Bethlen Gábor Fund.

Empower Myself 2025 - The Final Weekend workshop

In January, the closing weekend of the training series within the framework of the Empower Myself project took place, marking the conclusion of a four-weekend developmental process. The final session of the programme was once again held in Jelka (Slovakia), at our well-known and much-loved venue, the Betlehem Mission Centre, where young people were able to continue working on their personal development in a safe and supportive environment.

During the closing weekend, special emphasis was placed on raising awareness of personal growth. Participants once again had the opportunity to work in groups, reflect together on various topics, and take part in activities that allowed them to experience effective cooperation and make use of their strengths within team settings.

One of the key themes of Saturday’s programme was media literacy and the conscious use of artificial intelligence. Participants actively explored how these tools can be used responsibly and creatively. As part of the process, we also worked with text and image generation. The joint work resulted in a unique outcome: with the help of artificial intelligence, the young people created a collective song reflecting on their experiences and learning journey throughout the Messzelátó programme.

The Saturday evening programme offered a meaningful closing experience for the participants, with a strong focus on emotional reflection and stepping out of one’s comfort zone. As part of this, we gathered around a shared campfire, which provided space for slowing down, processing experiences and deepening connections with one another.

On Sunday, the focus shifted to summarising and reflecting on the learning outcomes of the entire programme, as well as sharing feedback. Participants reflected on where they started and how far they had come over the course of the four weekends. The programme concluded in a ceremonial setting, where the young people received their certificates, symbolically crowning the shared journey.

We would like to sincerely thank all the young participants for taking part in this four-weekend developmental process. We strongly believe that they have undergone tangible personal growth that will also be reflected in their everyday lives. They have acquired skills and competences that are essential for further studies, the world of work and successful integration into the labour market. As trainers, it was a great privilege to accompany these personal development journeys, and we wish every participant much success in their future paths.

We would also like to express our gratitude to our trainers, volunteers and everyone who contributed in any way to the realisation of these weekends. Special thanks go to the Betlehem Mission Centre for once again providing a space that supported the development of young people during the final weekend.

Life is a Game - This is what our 2025 Experience Conference was like!

Two weeks have passed since the final game came to an end, the main hall fell silent, and the doors of the conference center closed behind us. The Experience Conference officially concluded.

Yet there are events after which returning to everyday life in the same way is simply not possible. This was one of them. And that is precisely why we organized it — and why you came. Not because everything changes, but because something within us shifts, just a little. We return to the same life with newly framed questions, subtly shifted emphases, and a more conscious presence.

The first day of the conference began with smiles, cheerful greetings, and friendly exchanges. From the very first moments, it was clear that this was not a traditional conference scenario. We were happy to see familiar faces again and welcomed first-time participants with equal enthusiasm.

Participants were warmly greeted by Kriszta Molnár, Gábor Sikula, Béla Keszegh, and Péter Urbán, followed by an energizing vocal warm-up led by Liliána Kaszmán–Saróka, which brought the community to life and set the tone for the conference. In this atmosphere, the keynote lecture Dare to Be Afraid! – Resilience at Home and at School by Hesna Al Ghaoui began. Through personal stories, Hesna delivered a thought-provoking and profound talk on how fear can be transformed into a resource in our everyday lives.

As in previous years, multiple workshops ran in parallel, covering a wide variety of topics so that everyone could find something that resonated with them. In the first workshop block, Éva Gyarmathy explored the benefits of neurodiversity; with Erika Hanula, participants learned practical learning-methodology techniques; Márton Svékus introduced the mindset of leading beyond formal authority; while Andrea Lánczos opened space for reflection through the tools of group supervision.

In the afternoon’s second workshop block, Noémi Récsei led a conversation with Monika Veselá and Lucia Molnár Satinská about learning the Slovak language as Hungarians living in Slovakia. The topic was approached from multiple perspectives — educational and linguistic — and from different identity positions, offering the audience a rich and nuanced understanding of the relationship between language and identity.

Meanwhile, in neighboring rooms, Zoli Beck played card games with teachers, Csilla Szabó equipped participants with tools from drama pedagogy, and Liliána Kaszmán–Saróka addressed burnout through playful exercises. In connection with the bicentenary of writer Mór Jókai, participants were also invited to a thematic city walk led by Tímea Szabó Csekei.

The third workshop block once again offered something for every interest. In the Education Reform LIVE! living library, participants engaged in inspiring conversations with experts about the practical implementation of educational reforms. At the same time, Liliána Kaszmán–Saróka and Gábor Sikula presented play as a personal resource; Kriszta Molnár offered psychodramatic solutions to everyday challenges; while Juszti Bondor guided participants through the fascinating world of artificial intelligence in a playful and accessible way.

The first day concluded with the unforgettable Card Game by Zoli Beck and Miklós H. Vecsei. The played cards revealed secrets and songs that can only be preserved through attentive listening. It was a beautiful way to close the evening in such an intimate and deeply personal atmosphere.

The second day began with a similar sense of excitement, yet it was permeated by something new — something born from the shared experiences of the previous day. In familiar glances, the natural quality of silence, and the tone of conversations, it was evident that the thoughts and insights from the day before were still settling within everyone. Some had already acted on a piece of advice, while others were stirred by newly awakened curiosity. And yet — or perhaps precisely because of this — we dove into the day with the same momentum and thirst for knowledge.

After a brief welcome, the morning started with a musical meditation led by János Kiss. Once the vibrations of sound had permeated every cell, the long-awaited keynote by Feri Pál began. In his signature style — moving from chair to chair, perfectly following the arc of his thoughts — he spoke about the nature of our blockages, our inner mechanisms, and recurring patterns. And how did a glowing Snoopy poster fit into the conclusion? Only those who were there truly understand.

Following Feri Pál’s lecture, the bar was set high, but feedback quickly confirmed that every speaker rose to the challenge with ease. In the fourth workshop block, Dávid Szél discussed how to create meaningful presence in children’s lives, while with György Kulcsár, participants explored the gifts of autism. In parallel, Krisztina Gyöngyösi examined the relationship between learning and stress, offering practical solutions for everyday challenges, and István Rabec introduced the growth mindset approach.

After a rich morning, lunch was filled with lively, buzzing conversations as participants exchanged experiences. This collective energy carried us into the fifth workshop block. In the main hall, a roundtable discussion featuring Szilvia Gyurkó, Dávid Szél, and Gábor Nyers was moderated by József Gazdag, focusing on how smartphones are reshaping the nature of childhood. Elsewhere, Ági Sütöri introduced the world of the Street Training movement, Erika Hanula offered guidance for parents on supporting their children’s learning, Ágnes Brath brought a coaching perspective closer to institutional education, while Tímea Szabó Csekei once again led participants along the footsteps of writer Jókai.

In the sixth and final workshop block, participants attended the puppet theatre performance The Boy by the Vekker Műhely (Vekker Theatre In Education (TIE) Company); Szilvia Szabó offered an hour of relaxation and play; Anett Iván Zlatarits introduced nature-based stress-reduction techniques in her oasis; and Izabella Csordás presented a clearer vision for a conscious parenting future.

At the end of two meaningful days, the Experience Conference closed with farewell words from Kriszta Molnár, followed by one final game led by Csilla Szabó, centered around gratitude.

As participants stepped out of the conference center, everyone carried something with them: a new perspective, a thought, or an encounter that warmed the heart. This is why the Experience Conference perhaps never truly ends — because the connection with others, playfulness, and mindful attention continue to live on in our everyday lives.

Thank you for being with us and for playing with us. We trust that the shared laughter, powerful realizations, and newly gained experiences will continue to accompany you. We are already looking forward with excitement to meeting again next year, to continue the game and the journey of discovery we have begun.

Focus on Active Citizenship – Empower Myself 2025 - 3rd Weekend

In mid-December, the third weekend of the training series was held within the framework of the Empower Myself project. This marked the third occasion we met with the young people participating in the programme.

During this weekend, we continued our work on developing key competencies that support young people in becoming conscious, responsible and active adults.

As part of the Empower Myself Erasmus+ project, our four-weekend career orientation programme was launched at the end of October 2025. The project aims to support young people growing up in socially disadvantaged environments in their career choices and future labour market integration. The programme targets participants aged 14–16 and is delivered through practical, playful and experience-based weekends.

The central theme of the third weekend was active citizenship. Throughout the weekend, the focus was on responsibility, communication, cooperation and community participation. Through group sessions and shared tasks, participants experienced what it means to function responsibly as part of a community, take initiative, think together and cooperate with others.
We are very pleased to see that the young participants have been investing significant effort into the joint process from the very beginning. By the third weekend, this commitment became clearly tangible: participants communicate with increasing confidence, reflect more consciously on their own functioning, and show visible development in critical thinking, future planning and teamwork skills.

It is evident that consistent and dedicated work bears fruit, and that these competencies provide a strong long-term foundation for young people’s future personal development and successful integration into the labour market.

As the Christmas holiday season approached, Sunday was already filled with a festive atmosphere. We concluded our joint work with a feedback exercise based on gift-giving, while tuning in together to the upcoming holidays.

We would like to thank the young participants for their committed involvement and perseverance, the teachers for their supportive and cooperative attitude, the volunteers for their continuous assistance, and the Betlehem Mission Centre in Jelka (Slovakia) for providing the venue.

DiNaMit training in Komárno - Autumn 2025

The DiNaMit training was held in October and November this year for the members of the student council of János Selye High School in Komárno.

The aim of the training, titled DiNaMit – Students, what do we do?, is to help both new and experienced student council members grow into a real community, understand their roles, and jointly outline the goals of the student council for the upcoming school year.

During the programme, participants not only got to know each other better but also gained insight into their own ways of working and their strengths. Already on the first day, it was noticeable how initial uncertainty began to fade and students from different backgrounds gradually formed a team. They worked on tasks that helped them step into their new roles, understand the basic functioning of the student council, and gain motivation for the school year ahead. Several participants noted that by the end of the day, they were able to continue working more effectively and with shared momentum.

On the following days, the training focused on activities that strengthened cooperation, communication, and goal-oriented planning. Some tasks highlighted the importance of effective information sharing, while others allowed participants to experience how solutions can be found quickly and creatively by building on the strengths of the team. The participants’ development became clearly visible: from one activity to the next, they worked together in an increasingly coordinated and conscious way.

An important pillar of the training was the transfer of knowledge from experienced student council members. Building on past experiences, participants jointly defined the values and goals that will guide the work of the student council in the coming year. As a result of this shared reflection, a unified vision for the future emerged.

By the end of the DiNaMit training, students felt more confident in their roles, and their cooperation and communication had significantly strengthened. A community was formed that understands where it is heading and has the strength to achieve its goals together.

DiNaMit is a development programme for secondary school students and schools that wish to make their student councils more conscious and effective. The training enables students to gain hands-on experience in decision-making, community building, and project implementation.

Who is the programme for?
– schools with an existing student council that would like to give the organisation new momentum,
– schools where a student council does not yet exist but where school leadership would like to involve students more actively in school life.

What does the programme offer?
– practical skills (project management, communication, cooperation),
– more motivated and responsible students,
– community-building experiences that strengthen the functioning of the student council.

The program has been completed with the support of the Minority Culture Fund - KULT MINOR.

Financial Literacy Weekend – Empower Myself 2025

In November, we met again with the participants of the Empower Myself project to continue building the development process we began together in October. This time as well, the venue was the Mission Center Bethlehem in Jelka (Slovakia), which provided a safe and inspiring space for learning, shared reflection and meaningful experiences.

The goal of the project Empower Myself is to support young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in building their future more consciously, responsibly and confidently – whether it’s self-awareness, career orientation or entering the labour market.

The central theme of our second meeting was financial literacy. Building on the self-knowledge and career-orientation foundations gained during the October weekend, this time we explored how to manage money responsibly, intentionally and consciously – both as students and later in independent adult life.

The young participants worked with experiential, non-formal methods: interactive group exercises, small-group discussions, practical situations and games simulating financial decisions.

Among the activities, we also used tools and methods learned through our previous international collaborations – including the Orient Activity and Re.Connection projects. These tools helped ensure that financial topics were not presented as dry theory, but became understandable through real experience.

We closed Saturday with a large, complex cooperative task that strengthened not only teamwork but also leadership skills. The young people experienced what it means to take responsibility for a group, make decisions together and solve a complex challenge in a way that gives everyone a role. Throughout the weekend, we once again saw how much strength, curiosity and developmental potential the group carries. They asked questions bravely, worked actively, and became visibly more confident in topics related to future planning and financial literacy.

We are grateful to the participants for their openness and collaboration, and we extend special thanks to our volunteers, whose background support and organisational help made the weekend smooth and meaningful. We are already looking forward to the new knowledge and experiences the next session will bring!

Virtual Intimacy Zone – Internet Safety Day in Dunajská Streda

On November 4, 2025, the Vámbéry Ármin High School in Dunajská Streda hosted the Virtual Intimacy Zone Internet Safety Day, an event that raised students’ awareness about conscious and safe use of the digital world. Organized by TANDEM, n.o., the event offered an exciting, educational, and experiential way to explore how to navigate the online space responsibly.

Throughout the day, students from classes 1.a, 1.b, 2.a, and 2.b participated in a variety of programs — interactive workshops, thematic stations, and a unique Live Library. The discussions and playful activities focused on current topics such as identifying fake news, protecting personal data, cyberbullying, digital addiction, and preventing online scams.

Morning small-group sessions helped develop self-awareness and critical thinking skills, while the afternoon offered freely selectable stations exploring digital footprints, the impact of artificial intelligence, and the world of misinformation. Students could also relax in the Digital Detox Room and reflect on their own internet habits. One highlight of the day was the interactive theatre workshop by Student Theater group named Fókusz Diákszínpad, led by Katalin Kuklis, creatively addressing the relationship between the online and offline worlds.

It was inspiring to see the students’ active participation and meaningful conversations with experts in a supportive, friendly atmosphere where they confidently shared their thoughts and experiences.

What is an influencer’s daily life like? How does it feel when someone’s accounts are hacked, and their data is stolen before their eyes? How much effort does it take to gain followers on Instagram? Students listened to real-life stories from our Live Books — Maja Gasparik, editor and presenter at Radio Pátria and singer of the band Arizóna; Attila Szlovák, IT security expert from company Motívum s.r.o.; and Kristóf Tóth, CEO and system administrator at company LiveIT s.r.o. — gaining valuable insights and practical safety tips.

Developing digital awareness is essential in young people’s lives today. The event received highly positive feedback from both teachers and students.

Virtual Intimacy Zone – Internet Safety Day

The Virtual Intimacy Zone is an interactive educational program promoting conscious and safe internet use among high school students. Through small-group activities, games, and thematic stands, students learn to recognize online risks, manage their digital footprint, and think critically about online information.

The program focuses not only on data protection and the technical side of online safety but also on emotional well-being — exploring how social media affects self-esteem and relationships.

During the day, participants engage in self-reflection discussions, interactive exercises, and themed stands such as Digital Detox, Filter-Free – Offline Conversations About the Online World, Virtual Defenders Cooperative Board Game, Live Library, AI Stand, Mobile Service Stand, Creative Stand, Hoax Stand, and Debate Theatre.

The goal is to help young people move more confidently, safely, and responsibly in the digital space.

Empower Myself 2025 – The First Weekend Workshop Took Place

In October, we held the first weekend of our training program withing the project called Empower Myself. This is our four-session developmental program for young people. The venue was the Mission Center Bethlehem in Jelka (Slovakia), where 20 young participants – from villages Tomášikovo and Jelka – spent a meaningful and experience-rich weekend together.

The aim of project Empower Myself is to support young people from socially disadvantaged backgrounds in becoming more self-aware, responsible, and confident as they take steps toward their future, the labour market, and independent living.

Participants arrived on Friday afternoon and began the evening with introductions, group games, and setting the framework for teamwork. From the very first moment, it was clear that an open, curious, and enthusiastic group had come together.

Saturday focused on self-awareness and cooperation: in the morning, various exercises deepened the participants’ self-knowledge, while in the afternoon, outdoor educational experiences helped them test themselves in new situations, develop teamwork and self-expression skills, and experience what it means to create and overcome challenges together. The evening was dedicated to career orientation – through playful and interactive activities, we explored future planning so that participants could envision their personal development paths.

The weekend concluded with self-reflective exercises, giving everyone the chance to look back on their progress and identify areas for further growth. Our goal was to help participants recognize their strengths and face the future with confidence.

This first session was a promising start – an inspiring, experience-filled weekend during which a real community began to form.

We thank all our volunteers for their background work and support, without which this weekend could not have taken place. We are already looking forward to the next weekends to continue the journey together!
